REAL Digital announces at Futuresource
David Henry, Managing Director of REAL Digital TV, used the podium at the Futuresource Summit to announce REAL Digital's plans for launch. An unnamed Futuresource consultant said later 'it was a surprise, and very exciting!'
'I was asked by Futuresource only this week if I wanted to be a panel member during a "future of broadcast" discussion,' David says. 'We have been talking internally about when we should go public with our plans, and I couldn't think of a better place than infront of industry colleagues.' David joined The BBC and Virgin as well as a member of the DTG who chaired the debate aimed at discussing the key issue's with broadcast, now we have on demand, IP content and other non-linear methods of consumption.
During a five minute podium slot, David introduced REAL Digital's proposition to the audience and confirmed plans to test the signals within 4 weeks, with a launch penciled early September. With the inclusion of a secure viewing card the platform will launch with HD as standard, a free pack of channels and services with every box, called Basic Essentials, and Sky Sports 1 & 2 at very competitive prices, called Sports Essentials. Paddy Latham, Marketing Manager adds, 'We also plan to offer a reasonably priced channel pack we are calling REAL Essentials. We are still in the process of confirming what that will include, but we are excited about offering the public greater choice at a more reasonable price.'
